Accomplishments

My name is Matthew D. Ryan.

I’m an author. I write fantasy novels. Dragons, vampires, … that sort of thing. I’m also a fantasy RPG game designer. I’ve been messing around with gaming systems (all fantasy-based) for the past 35 years or so. From such efforts, I’ve developed a formidable repertoire of worldbuilding skills. In fact, I’d say I’m a fantasy worldbuilding expert. I’ve built worlds for both  RPG games and fantasy novels. All of it was great fun. And a great intellectual exercise to boot.

But that’s not all.

I’m also a freelance writer currently listed on Upwork and on the look out for new clients. Although my specialty is the fantasy genre, I am also proficient in philosophical writing, non-fiction work, and even laymen’s scientific articles. If you are interested in hiring me as a freelancer contact me through Upwork. It’s a fairly simple process.

Below you’ll find the cover designs and brief descriptions for the first three (of an expected five) books of my fantasy series “From the Ashes of Ruin.” There are also links to Smashwords where you can purchase ebook copies of each of those works. Additionally, you’ll find a listing of my other fantasy fiction and a brief summary of some of my skills, experience, and education.

I’ve Written Three Fantasy Novels:

Fantasy novel "Drasmyr."

Drasmyr: The Prequel to the Series “From the Ashes of Ruin.”

Vampires Weren’t Meant to be Sexy

The original vampire was a thing of terror. Drasmyr resurrects that concept. This vampire is a monster born of darkness and bent on revenge. You’ll savor every drop of horror in this fantasy fiction feast. Drasmyr consistently earns between 4 and 5 stars in reviews. If you’re a fan of mystery and adventure, you can’t afford to miss this tale. Buy Drasmyr now!

Fantasy novel "The Children of Lubrochius."

The Children of Lubrochius: Book 1 in the Series “From the Ashes of Ruin.”

The powers of Hell are rising. Only a brave and stalwart few dare to defy them. In Drasmyr, Coragan and his companions fought an ancient vampire. Now they face a cult of demon worshipers and all the horrors such entails. Don’t miss this fantasy fiction thrill ride. It consistently earns 4 to 5 stars in reviews. It’s chock full of magic, mystery, and mayhem. Just like your gaming days of yesteryear. Buy The Children of Lubrochius now!

Fantasy novel "The Sceptre of Morgulan."

The Sceptre of Morgulan: Book 2 in the Series “From the Ashes of Ruin.”

A tyrant dead a thousand years is destined to return. Can Coragan and his companions keep him from claiming his sceptre before it is too late? Find out in this epic fantasy fiction tale of good and evil. It is a truly great fantasy book that consistently earns between four and five stars on-line. Don’t miss out. Buy The Sceptre of Morgulan now!

I’ve Developed Four Fantasy RPG Games:

  • Wizards and Warriors (Iteration One)
  • Untitled (Iteration Two)
  • Iron Dawn (Iteration Three)
  • Title in Progress (Iteration Four)

The fantasy RPG’s I developed really all stemmed from the same game, but it went through four different phases as listed above. The difference between the original fantasy RPG system and the one I am working on now is really quite dramatic. It has improved a lot over the years.

The Citadel: Book 3 in the Series “From the Ashes of Ruin.”

Looking for a fantasy novel you can really sink into? Well-crafted and full of twists and turns? Escape into a world of danger and intrigue, where magic is real and monsters are aplenty.
Explore the nature, not only of the good, but of the evil as well, and sometimes even the morally ambiguous—just for kicks.
